LANCUM-81DDE1 Rapier

Cast cu-alloy rapier blade dating from the Middle Bronze Age, ca. 1500-1250BC. It is likely to belong to the Acton Park 2, Taunton (Cemmaes) or Pennard metalwork assemblage, corresponding to Needham’s (1997) Period 5, c. 1500-1150BC. The hilt (which was made from perishable material such as antler, wood or bone) is missing and so are the rivets with which it was attached to the blade. The blade itself was very thinly cast and is very worn today. Chronology Broad period: BRONZE AGE Period from: BRONZE AGE Period to: BRONZE AGE Date from: Post 1500 BC Date to: Ante 1250 BC
